Welcome to my counselling and psychotherapy service based in Rainhill, Merseyside. My name is Carmen, and I have been a private practitioner for 18 years. I provide therapy for individuals aged 16 and over, as well as supervision for therapists.

I am a positive and enthusiastic counsellor with 20 years of experience working with children, adults, families, and couples. My passion for helping others stems from my belief in the power of hope. I enjoy interacting with people from various cultures and backgrounds, which enriches my practice.

Background
I have a diverse professional background in counselling and psychotherapy, underpinned by extensive training and qualifications. I am an accredited member of the BACP and have completed a Master’s degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy, focusing on Person Centred Therapy. My qualifications include:
- PGD in CBT from the University of Salford, Manchester
- Training in Couple & Family Therapy (equivalent to a Master’s degree)
- EMDR therapist training from EMDR Academy
- Mindfulness course: ‘Finding Peace in a Frantic World’
- Voluntary training on domestic violence and Freedom Program with South Liverpool Domestic Abuse Services
- NCFE Level 2 qualification for Working in the Health Sector
- Equality and Diversity Level 2 from Selby College
- Graduate Member (MBPsS) and Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) with The British Psychological Society

Therapy Approach
In my practice, I employ several therapeutic approaches to support clients. These include EMDR, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and trauma-focused therapy, tailored to individual needs. I also offer specialised support for bereavement and baby loss.
In our sessions, we will typically:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

EMDR
EMDR is an interactive psychotherapy technique used to relieve psychological stress. It is an effective treatment for trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Family Systems Therapy
Family Systems Therapy treats the family as a system, addressing issues within the context of the family unit.
Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)
Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is designed to address the needs of children and adults with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other difficulties related to traumatic life events.
Person-Centered Therapy
Person-Centered Therapy, developed by Carl Rogers, emphasizes a non-directive, empathetic approach that empowers and motivates the client in the therapeutic process.
Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)
Solution Focused Brief Therapy is a goal-directed collaborative approach to psychotherapeutic change that is conducted through direct observation of clients’ responses to a series of precisely constructed questions.
Systemic
Systemic therapy seeks to understand the individual in the context of the systems they are a part of, considering the interactions and relationships within families and other systems.
