Heather Macfarlane – Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (CBT)
Do you feel overwhelmed or anxious? Is it all getting too much at times? Do you feel stuck but don’t know how to change? It can help to have someone impartial to talk to who can help you through difficult times and give you some space to deal with whatever is causing your distress. This is where therapy can help.
I believe people seek therapy because they want to make a change in their lives. This can be scary, but having felt overwhelmed and anxious at times myself, I hope to be able to offer a supportive, calm, safe environment for you to explore your issues and work towards the best solution for you.
Personal Touch
I am passionate about personal development and enjoy practicing yoga & Pilates and other relaxation methods to help calm my mind after a busy day.
Client Focus
I work with both individuals and couples.
My area of expertise is anxiety. This includes general anxiety, OCD and more specifically tokophobia (a fear of pregnancy and/or childbirth).
With couples I work to improve communication and help break negative patterns of destructive arguments and behaviours. A particular area of expertise is working with parents to navigate the impact that a new baby (or older children) have on your relationship including; losing sight of yourself and your relationship since having children and learning to work together as a team to get through difficult times.
I work with adults only.

Therapy Approach

Client Feedback
I've changed in so many ways, I feel so much lighter. It's not so much of a traffic jam in my head now. I have been in counselling since I was 18 (now age 38) and this is the only one that's ever worked, it's been life changing. I’ve never done the exposure hierarchy before and that really worked for me to tackle my anxiety rather than just coping strategies.
I just wanted to say a big thank you for the consultation session last week. It was really helpful, quite possibly the most helpful session I’ve had so far regarding my OCD. It was genuinely so insightful and made so much sense to me, and confirmed that I’ve made the right choice in seeking different therapy for my OCD
I did it! So thank you for all your help and support on this journey, I wouldn’t have been able to do it without your encouragement.
‘This is the best we’ve been in a long time. When I first called, I felt very low and thought we were going to separate. We were living parallel lives but now we feel together. Communication is much better between us’
