Jacqueline Leiper – Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (CBT)

she/her

I am a fully qualified and BABCP-registered Cognitive Behavioural Therapist, bringing over 25 years of experience in mental health to my practice. My journey began within the NHS as a Registered Mental Health Nurse, which has given me a deep understanding of mental health challenges from a broad clinical perspective.

In our sessions, we will typically:

  • Explore your thoughts and behaviours to identify patterns.

  • Break down overwhelming problems into manageable parts.

  • Work collaboratively to develop practical strategies for change.

  • Foster a sense of clarity, control, and empowerment in your life.

  • Utilise evidence-based therapeutic techniques tailored to your needs.

I am dedicated to providing genuine empathy and insight, helping you navigate your challenges effectively.

Personal Touch

I believe in creating a personal touch in my practice. My work is grounded in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), which focuses on the ‘here and now’. I help clients develop practical tools to challenge unhelpful thoughts and shift patterns that keep them stuck. Additionally, I offer therapeutic yoga to support nervous-system regulation, embodiment, and resilience in a gentle and accessible way.

In our sessions, we will typically:

  • Explore your thoughts and behaviours to identify unhelpful patterns.

  • Develop practical strategies to challenge these thoughts.

  • Incorporate therapeutic yoga techniques to enhance your well-being.

  • Create a confidential and respectful space for open dialogue.

  • Set clear goals and support your progress throughout our work together.

I aim to foster a warm and supportive environment where you can feel safe to explore your experiences.

Client Focus

I work best with clients who are struggling with anxiety, stress, addictions, and trauma. My aim is to create a safe space where we can explore what lies beneath the surface. This gentle approach helps to shift patterns that no longer serve you.

In our sessions, we will typically:

  • Identify and understand your specific challenges.

  • Explore underlying issues contributing to your experiences.

  • Work together to develop coping strategies.

  • Focus on symptom reduction and emotional grounding.

  • Foster a deeper connection to yourself and what matters most.

I believe that with the right support, you can feel more confident in your ability to cope and navigate life's challenges.

Background

I have been a qualified mental health nurse for over 25 years, providing care in both inpatient and community settings. My experience includes 12 years specialising in addictions, where I have supported many individuals on their recovery journeys.

In addition to my nursing background, I have been a yoga teacher since 2018. I completed my advanced yoga training in 2023, which allows me to work therapeutically with clients. I am also trained as a mindfulness teacher, integrating these practices into my sessions.

In my practice, I focus on:

  • Providing a safe and supportive environment for clients.

  • Using mindfulness techniques to enhance self-awareness.

  • Incorporating yoga practices to promote relaxation and well-being.

  • Drawing on my extensive nursing experience to address mental health challenges.

I believe in a holistic approach to mental health, combining my skills to support clients effectively.

Therapy Approach

I utilise Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to help you understand how your thoughts influence your emotions and actions. In our first session, we will explore what has brought you to therapy and decide together how to move forward. My approach is collaborative and tailored to suit your pace.

In our sessions, we will typically:

  • Discuss your thoughts and feelings to identify patterns.

  • Work together to develop practical tools for lasting change.

  • Incorporate body practices from yoga to enhance your experience.

  • Use breathing techniques to promote relaxation and balance.

  • Focus on nervous system balance to support your overall well-being.

I aim to create a safe space where you can explore your experiences and work towards your goals.
