Counsellor Therapist

Hi, I'm Kirsty, and I am a counsellor who works both online, and face to face with adults and young people in my Tewkesbury town centre practice on a one to one basis. I will work with you to understand what you are experiencing without judgement, blame or shame. My goal is to help you rediscover your unique strengths, inherent value, and a renewed sense of well-being through compassion and understanding. In turn helping you to feel better about yourself, and how you got to where you are today. Together we will explore your unique story and build the self-assurance and inner resilience you deserve. I believe that through kindness and understanding, we can gently address negative self-beliefs, overcome self-doubt, and nurture the belief in your own potential, helping you to lead a more fulfilled life.

Personal Touch

I am drawn to this work because I believe everyone deserves the opportunity to understand themselves more deeply and to live with greater ease, clarity, and self-compassion.

Client Focus

I often work with people who feel “not good enough”, overwhelmed, or stuck in patterns that no longer serve them. You may find yourself wondering why life hasn’t turned out as you hoped, or feeling frustrated by repeating difficulties in your relationships, your work, or the way you see yourself. I offer a supportive space to explore these experiences together. Through our work, I can support you to reconnect with your sense of worth, develop greater self-compassion, and gently question the beliefs and patterns that may be holding you back. As a trauma-informed practitioner, I am mindful that life experiences can leave lasting emotional marks, which may still affect you today. Our work is guided by safety, choice, and pace. Rather than pushing you to revisit what has happened, the focus is on helping you feel more grounded, supported, and able to move forward in ways that feel manageable and meaningful to you. I also have experience supporting clients with misophonia — a strong emotional response to certain sounds. I offer a compassionate, non-judgemental space to explore how this affects your daily life, and can help you develop practical strategies, clearer boundaries, and a personal toolkit to manage triggers and feel more in control.

Background

I am fully qualified, and a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), a respected professional body that upholds clear ethical and professional standards. I have completed additional training in online and telephone counselling, enabling me to offer a safe and professional virtual space for you if you would prefer that, or are out of the local area. I have also completed training in trauma informed practices.

Therapy Approach

I work integratively, which means I tailor my approach to you and your individual needs. My core training is in Person-Centred and Psychodynamic counselling, allowing me to work both with what is happening for you in the present and, where helpful, to gently explore how past experiences may be influencing you now. I believe that change is possible, particularly when you feel safe, understood, and supported. I offer a calm and confidential space where you can talk openly, at your own pace, without pressure or expectation. Our work together is led by you. We will only explore the past if and when it feels helpful, and always in a way that feels manageable and respectful of your boundaries. I am mindful of the impact that difficult or overwhelming experiences can have, including experiences that may not always be recognised as trauma. The focus of our work is not on revisiting what has happened, but on developing greater self-understanding, self-compassion, and choice. Through this, you can begin to make sense of patterns, feel more grounded in yourself, and move forward in a way that feels right for you.
