Kim Zepler – Professional Counsellor

she/her

As a professional counsellor my core believe is that given the optimum conditions we are able to find our path through life's challenges. We have the capacity to grow in our unique way when we feel heard and understood without judgement.

Personal Touch

I can not escape the fact that I love the outdoors and exploring life. Being open-minded allows me to think about who I am which has really evolved over the years. However at my core there is still a teenager who likes going out and having all sorts of adventures - some work and some don't - this is ok.

Client Focus

I work with a wide range of clients, from adolescents through to adulthood and beyond.  I do not however, work with children, couples or families.

I work mostly with loss and life transitions, ranging from bereavement to caring for others or relationship changes. I also support with those living with life limiting conditions.

I also work with workplace issues such as bullying, stress, career changes and / or job loss.

Background

I am a registered counsellor with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I hold a BA (Hons) in Humanistic Counselling, which forms the foundation of my practice. My training equips me to provide a supportive and empathetic environment for my clients.

In my sessions, we will typically:

  • Explore your thoughts and feelings in a safe space.

  • Work together to identify your goals and challenges.

  • Use humanistic approaches to foster personal growth.

  • Develop coping strategies tailored to your needs.

  • Encourage self-reflection and insight.

I am committed to creating a warm and trusting relationship with my clients, helping them navigate their journeys.

Therapy Approach

Counselling is about collaboration and conversation where the focus of the work is your needs. I do not give advice but help you explore your life.

In my practice, I employ a humanistic counselling approach that integrates various methods, including person-centred therapy, gestalt, and transactional analysis. My interest in existentialism further enriches the therapeutic experience - i.e., what life means to you.

I am also able to blend in basic mindfulness and creative techniques for those who feel these might be useful.

Brief Therapy

Brief Therapy centers on specific problems and direct intervention, offering solutions within a short period.

Psychoeducation refers to the process of providing education and information to those seeking or receiving mental health services, such as diagnoses, treatment options, and coping strategies for dealing with mental health.

Humanistic Therapy

Humanistic Therapy emphasizes looking at the whole individual and stresses concepts of free will, self-efficacy, and self-actualization to help people lead more fulfilling lives.

Person-Centered Therapy

Person-Centered Therapy, developed by Carl Rogers, emphasizes a non-directive, empathetic approach that empowers and motivates the client in the therapeutic process.

Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)

Solution Focused Brief Therapy is a goal-directed collaborative approach to psychotherapeutic change that is conducted through direct observation of clients’ responses to a series of precisely constructed questions.

Bereavement Counselling

Bereavement counselling supports people after a loss, helping them explore grief at their own pace, process emotions such as sadness, anger or guilt, and find ways to cope day to day while adjusting to life after loss.

Pet Bereavement Counselling

Pet bereavement counselling offers support after the loss of an animal companion, recognising the depth of the bond and helping people work through grief, guilt or shock (including around end-of-life decisions), and navigate the changes to routines and family life.
