Nicky Wilkinson – Professional Counsellor

I am dedicated to supporting clients with a wide range of challenges, such as low self-confidence, anxiety, low mood, bereavement, stress, burnout, trauma, and relationship issues. My approach is collaborative, meaning I tailor our sessions to suit your individual needs. Whether you require space to talk, wish to explore deeper patterns, or want to learn practical tools, I adapt my methods accordingly.

Before retraining as an integrative counsellor, I spent over 28 years in Research & Development. I understand the pressures busy professionals face. My own positive experience with therapy inspired me to help others. I know starting therapy can feel daunting, which is why I offer a peaceful space where you can feel heard and supported.

In our sessions, we will typically:

Personal Touch

Before re-training to be a counsellor, my background was in Research & Development. I worked for 30+ years in large and small corporates, whilst always caring more about the people than the targets or projects.

My own career experience, particularly realising late on in my career that the content of my roles was not fulfilling me, helps me understand the pressures you may feel.

I also have my own experience of counselling and know how scary it can feel to take the first step to find a counsellor.

In my late 20s, I suffered with depression, and whilst I did take anti-depressants which helped, I never addressed the root causes, as I was too embarrassed to see a counsellor. There was a lot more stigma around mental health then, but I also carried a lot of shame which was a huge barrier for me. I felt better over time and soldiered on with life and career. 

In my early 40s, I had a stressful role at work, and stress turned to anxiety, turned to near burnout. This time I did seek counselling and it was such a positive experience for me, that I decided I wanted to help other people in the same way it had helped me.  I draw on my own experiences to help others, but we each are unique and I’m here to listen to you, and support you in a tailored way that suits you.

Client Focus

I work with individuals aged 18 and over, providing support to navigate various life challenges. My aim is to make therapy approachable and to help clients understand its benefits. I believe that having a confidential space and a regular time to talk fosters a trusting relationship, allowing for deeper self-understanding.

In our sessions, we will typically:

  • Explore issues such as low self-confidence and anxiety.

  • Address feelings of low mood and grief.

  • Discuss stress and burnout management strategies.

  • Work through trauma and its impact on your life.

  • Navigate relationship issues and improve communication.



I am here to support you in finding clarity and resilience in your journey.

Background

I have a diverse professional background that enriches my counselling practice. After nearly 30 years in research and development, I retrained as a Counsellor in my mid 40s, inspired by my positive personal counselling experience.

I have worked in various settings, including:

  • Counselling in a male prison, where I gained insight into unique challenges.

  • Providing support at a local GP surgery, working with a range of clients.

  • Establishing my private practice two years ago, allowing me to focus on individual needs.



This wealth of experience enables me to understand and support you effectively in your journey.
