Reena Shah – Counsellor Therapist
she/her
Hello, I'm Reena — a British-born South Asian woman with deep roots tracing from India to Africa, now living in London.
Over the years, my journey has been anything but linear. On paper, you might describe me as a qualified beauty therapist, complementary therapist, Reiki healer, insurance specialist, accountant, cab driver, and a trained child and adolescent therapist — as well as an eternal student of life. But I simply call myself a Well-being Therapist, bringing together a rich tapestry of real-life and professional experiences that have guided me toward my true purpose: supporting others in their healing journey.
From a young age, I’ve felt a deep calling to help people — and animals — heal. My work draws on both Western scientific understanding and Eastern philosophical wisdom, forming an integrative therapeutic practice that nurtures the mind, body, and soul. I believe this balanced, holistic approach creates the conditions necessary for lasting, meaningful transformation.
My practice is grounded in core values: curiosity, empathy, compassion, acceptance, containment, conscious awareness, integration, creativity, balance, patience, and movement. These principles help me support others in reshaping their inner narratives, allowing them to live with greater clarity, purpose, and connection — not just as individuals, but as part of a wider, interdependent community.
I’ve worked with people from a wide range of backgrounds and communities, helping to shift ingrained internal dialogues around identity, neurodiversity, cultural difference, generational trauma, and personal or family struggles. I also support professionals, including educators navigating complex and ambiguous environments, to reclaim autonomy and begin healing from the root upwards.
Clients often leave our sessions with a renewed sense of self and confidence in their ability to manage life’s challenges. They take away practical tools and embodied techniques that support them across all areas of life — tools they can also share with others, contributing to collective healing and emotional regulation within their circles and communities.
I believe healing is deeply personal. Every individual’s path is unique, and creating a mindful, supportive, and non-judgmental space is essential to meaningful exploration. My sessions often integrate external creative practices — such as working with clay, art, crystals, stones, and crafts — alongside internal healing techniques like mindfulness, breathwork, and Reiki, encouraging deep, conscious integration.

Personal Touch
I have a deep connection with animals and a strong passion for making the world a kinder, safer place for both animals and children. Creativity is an important part of my life, and I enjoy expressing myself through drawing, painting, and arts and crafts. I thrive in warmth and sunshine, which helps me feel grounded and energized.
I am autistic and live with several chronic health conditions, experiences that have shaped my empathy, resilience, and understanding of individual needs. Through learning to manage these challenges, I have built a fulfilling and happy life, and this perspective influences the compassion and patience I bring into my work with others.
Client Focus
work with children, adolescents, and adults, providing a safe, supportive space for growth and understanding. I have a particular interest in supporting neurodivergent clients and those who have experienced trauma or face emotional challenges. My approach is integrative and individualized, drawing on counselling techniques and holistic practices, including Reiki when appropriate.
I specialize in working with schools on behalf of individual children or adolescents, helping to identify and support specific needs, liaising with staff where appropriate, and ensuring that each young person has the guidance and accommodations they require to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. My goal is to help every client feel heard, understood, and empowered, whether navigating personal challenges, family dynamics, or seeking strategies for emotional resilience.
Background
hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Child and Adolescent Counselling from Terapia, completed through an integrative Master’s-level training programme that also included adult counselling. I have four years of professional counselling experience working with children, adolescents, and adults, and engage in ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD), particularly in neurodivergence and trauma-informed practice.
In addition, I have over 20 years of experience practicing Reiki and am trained to Master level. Where appropriate and with client consent, this informs my holistic understanding of wellbeing and supports a grounded, compassionate approach to counselling. I remain committed to ethical practice and continued professional growth.
Therapy Approach
My counselling approach is integrative, client-centered, and tailored to each individual. I combine evidence-based techniques such as cognitive-behavioral strategies, trauma-informed approaches, and developmental frameworks with creative and play-based methods including storytelling, art journaling, puppetry, toy figure play, clay, and sensory tools. These methods are especially effective for children and adolescents, helping them express feelings, explore experiences, and develop coping skills in a safe and engaging way.
I also incorporate holistic practices, such as Reiki, where appropriate and with client consent, to support wellbeing and create a calm, grounded environment. My training and experience in neurodivergence allow me to adapt sessions to meet each child’s individual cognitive, sensory, and emotional needs.
I often work closely with schools and families, advocating for children, identifying specific needs, and supporting strategies that allow them to thrive both academically and emotionally. Above all, I aim to create a supportive, collaborative, and non-judgmental space where children feel understood, parents feel reassured, and all clients feel empowered to build resilience and growth.

Testimonials
Client Feedback
"Once again, with Reena’s guidance my daughter has managed to get through the period of self harm and is moving towards of self understanding and self love. She managed to get a personal friend for my daughter and got all respect from her side. My family owes Reena a huge debt for her support over the past 3 years.”
My daughter who is 11 years old now was diagnosed to be on the Autistic spectrum 5 years ago. Being a high functional and pre-teenage girl which isn’t an easy task to navigate through, my daughters has been having a struggle in her social life and has some eating problems/disorders. My daughter attends a mainstream school (year 7 now) and has some friends which is a huge achievement in comparison with where she was several years ago including school refusal and having no playdates at all."
“When our 6-year old son first saw Reena, he was having a lot of difficulty managing his emotions, resulting in frequent, giant violent meltdowns that were draining for the entire family. Reena slowly and steadily helped him to manage his emotions, teaching him skills to recognise his emotions, calm himself, and take accountability for his actions. We’re not at the end of the journey yet, but our son is in a much better place and our family is a lot calmer and happier as well."
"Reena was incredibly knowledgeable and created a safe space in which all members of the group felt comfortable. Our group were able to experience a number of different breath-work practices with journalling and guided discussion been used to reflect on how these practices might be used and the physical and emotional journey it created for each individual. By the end of the course, we felt equipped with a new set of tools to help us as individuals better navigate the strains of daily life."
“I had been struggling with attachment issues, anxiety, and a sense of lack of purpose, which deeply affected my life and made dating particularly difficult. My sessions with Reena were truly transformative. Through our work together, I gained a deeper understanding of myself and uncovered that the anxiety, overwhelm, frustration, and attachment struggles I was experiencing stemmed from unresolved grief I had been carrying for many years. Reena helped me process and release this grief."
"I wanted to share our experience with Reena, who has been working with our son over the past year. She has such a wonderful way with kids, and my son really connected with her right from the start. What really matters to us as parents is that our son genuinely looks forward to his sessions, and we can see how much he's grown and made progress. Reena has earned his trust and their work together has really helped him. He often says that everyone should have someone like Reena in their life."
