Alessandra Samson – Counsellor Therapist

she/her

I work with adults who look fine on the outside but are running empty on the inside. People who've spent so long managing everyone else's feelings that they've lost track of their own. Who say yes when they mean no, avoid conflict, and wonder how they became someone they no longer recognise.

I offer online therapy to help you understand why you do this and work through change. Not through quick fixes, but by making sense of the patterns and building something different.

If you're ready, let's talk.

Meet Alessandra: Your Counsellor Therapist Introduction

Personal Touch

I came to therapy because I couldn't make sense of the gap between how I looked on the outside and what was happening inside. I was functioning fine - work, relationships, all of it but something felt fundamentally off, and I couldn't articulate why.

Studying psychology gave me frameworks, but counselling helped me actually understand that disconnect. More than that, it showed me how powerful it is when someone helps you make sense of what's been confusing or painful. That's what drew me to the work - not the theory but the actual experience of being understood and finding a way forward.

Client Focus

You apologise for things that aren't your fault. You say yes when you mean no. You rehearse conversations for days, then avoid them entirely. You're the reliable one at work, the easy-going one in relationships. Underneath the “I'm fine”, you're anxious, resentful, and empty. You’ve spent so long being what everyone needs that you don't know what you want anymore. You've lost yourself somewhere in all the performing. You know something needs to change. You're tired of managing everyone else’s feelings whilst yours gets buried. Tired of the guilt every time you think about saying no. Tired of not recognising the person you've become.

Background

I'm trained in Person-Centred Therapy with a Masters in Psychological Wellbeing in Clinical Practice and Bachelors in Psychology with Counselling and Psychotherapy. I use Low Intensity CBT where appropriate. I have experience of anxiety, low self-esteem, and relationship difficulties rooted in people pleasing and over functioning.

Therapy Approach

My approach is about creating a space where you can actually think clearly about what's going on without judgment, without having to perform, and without me telling you what to do.

I work within an integrative approach which means I draw from Person-centred therapy, CBT, and solution focused approaches depending on what you need. Here's what this actually looks like:

Person-centred therapy is the foundation as it’s where you get to be honest about what's really going on without worrying how it sounds or whether it's “too much”. Many of my clients are spent years managing everyone else’s feelings, so having someone truly listen without an agenda is often where the real shifts begin.

Low intensity CBT comes in when you're stuck in patterns that aren't serving you like constantly saying yes when you mean though, replying conversations for hours, or feeling responsible for other people's reactions. We look at the thoughts driving these patterns and work out practical ways to interrupt them. This isn't about “positive thinking” but rather about seeing your situation more accurately so you can make different choices.

Solution-focused therapy helps when you know something needs to change but feel overwhelmed about where to start. Instead of spending months unpacking the past, we identify what’s already working (even slightly) and build from there. This is especially helpful when you're ready to set boundaries or reclaim parts of yourself you've lost along the way.

The outcome? You learn to recognise when you're abandoning yourself to keep the peace, and you develop the skills to show up authentically without the constant guilt or anxiety. My job is to help you trust yourself again.
