Helen Allen – Counsellor Therapist
she/her
Do you look like you’re coping on the outside, whilst feeling exhausted, overwhelmed or disconnected? You may be used to putting everyone else first, overthinking, people pleasing or struggling to set boundaries. I offer a warm, honest and down to earth space to help you understand what’s really going on and find a way forward.
Personal Touch
Outside of counselling, I love getting outdoors, walking my dogs and spending time with people who matter the most. I enjoy PT sessions and Pilates to help me slow down and switch off. I think balance is important- counselling is a big part of what I do, but it’s not all of who I am.
Client Focus
I work with adults and teenagers over 16 who may look like they’re coping on the outside but feel overwhelmed, exhausted or disconnected underneath. Many are used to putting others first, people pleasing or taking responsibility for everyone around them. They may struggle with boundaries, self worth or relationship. I also support people affected by difficult family experiences, including growing up with a parent affected by addiction. I offer an inclusive space and welcome clients of all sexualities and identities.
Background
I am qualified Person Centred Counsellor with addition qualifications in CBT, couples therapy. I have significant experience in supporting people with anxiety, low self esteem, relationship difficulties and challenging life experiences, which often stem from grief or childhood.
I create a warm, collaborative space where you can explore what’s going on for you without judgement. I have a particular experience in supporting people who struggle with people pleasing, boundaries, and the impact of difficult families experiences including growing up with addiction.
Therapy Approach
My approach is person centred, warm and collaborative. I'll listen carefully to what’s going on for you, without judgement, while also helping you make sense of patterns, explore different perspectives and work out what you actually need. I wont tell you what to do, but I also wont simply sit and nod either. We'll find the right balance between “I hear you” and “let’s figure this out”- at a pace which is right for you.

Existential
Existential therapy focuses on free will, self-determination, and the search for meaning—often centering on you rather than on the symptom.
Neuro-Linguistic Programming
Neuro-Linguistic Programming involves analyzing strategies used by successful individuals and applying them to reach a personal goal. It relates thoughts, language, and patterns of behavior learned through experience to specific outcomes.
Person-Centered Therapy
Person-Centered Therapy, developed by Carl Rogers, emphasizes a non-directive, empathetic approach that empowers and motivates the client in the therapeutic process.
Bereavement Counselling
Bereavement counselling supports people after a loss, helping them explore grief at their own pace, process emotions such as sadness, anger or guilt, and find ways to cope day to day while adjusting to life after loss.
