Christy Tilney – Psychotherapist
she/her
You may have reached a point where things feel difficult to manage on your own. Whether you're feeling anxious, low, lonely, or overwhelmed, you don’t have to make sense of it all before seeking support. Psychotherapy provides a safe space to talk openly about your feelings at your own pace.
In our sessions, we will typically:
- Explore how your relationships shape your experiences.
- Examine patterns that may leave you feeling hurt or disconnected.
- Work together to understand your feelings and experiences.
- Create a compassionate and non-judgemental environment for discussion.
- Support you in finding more choice in how you respond to life's challenges.
My approach is relational and integrative, focusing on the connection we develop in therapy. I am here to listen and support you as you make sense of your experiences.
Client Focus
I focus on working with adults aged 18 and older. Many of my clients come to me seeking to understand how their earlier experiences affect their current relationships and decisions. Through our sessions, they often regain a sense of self and find ways to thrive in their lives. In our sessions, we will typically:
- Explore your past experiences and their impact on your present.
- Discuss your current relationships and any challenges you face.
- Work towards regaining a sense of self and identity.
- Identify strategies to help you thrive in your daily life.
- Create a supportive environment for personal growth.
I aim to provide a warm and understanding space for my clients to navigate what is important to them.
Background
I have a diverse professional background that enriches my practice. Before retraining as a psychotherapist, I worked in psychology research and NHS management. This experience, along with life events, has provided me with valuable insights into mental health and well-being.
I hold an MA in integrative counselling and psychotherapy, which allows me to draw on various therapeutic approaches tailored to individual needs.
I am committed to providing a warm and understanding space for my clients to explore their thoughts and feelings.
Therapy Approach
My therapeutic approach is guided by your individual needs. I may explore your early experiences and their ongoing influence (psychodynamic) or focus on your present thoughts, feelings, and experiences (humanistic and person-centred). My aim is to support you in developing a deeper awareness of yourself and building the inner resources needed for a fulfilling life.In our sessions, we will typically:
- Uncover and challenge the beliefs that keep you stuck
- Develop self-compassion to quiet your inner critic
- Work through unresolved grief, trauma, or painful experiences at your own pace
- Strengthen your ability to set boundaries and create healthy, fulfilling relationships
- Clarify your values, desires, and next steps toward a more meaningful life
